As homeschool moms, we have a lot to keep up with. School work, chores, sports, church, cooking, potty training you name it, it’s on the list! I do not have a schedule for everything in my life, but I have started to understand why having a homeschool schedule or routine for our school work is important. Let’s just face it, life happens and school work can easily get pushed to the back of the list of things to do.
Well if your children are able to read or understand the meaning of photos, I suggest coming up with a visual homeschool schedule or routine for your children. This just lays out the plan for the day. The routine should include what you want them to accomplish. If you want to do time blocks like a traditional schedule you can, personally, we can’t stick to time blocks. But, if we know what needs to be done we can get it done! As long as the list gets done, I’m ok with that! You have to decide what works for you and your family.
The only way to figure out what works best is to give it a try! You will learn what works best through trial and error. I’ve put together a list of several ways you can get started scheduling your homeschool day. These are all visual ways to help your children visually see what tasks you want them to accomplish throughout the day!

Each schedule can be completely personalized for your child. Having a visual schedule can help teach your child independence. As they complete each task and mark them off, they will be able to visually see what they have accomplished.
Start by picking out a schedule and personalizing it to meet what you want each child to accomplish. If it doesn’t seem to be working out, don’t be afraid to change it up! As you continue to homeschool you will learn that everything is trial and error. You will find something that works! Just keep moving along!
What schedule do you think will work best for your child? Are you currently doing something different?
