Want to learn the secret to creating all those awesome printables you see? Fantastic! Because that is exactly what I am going to share with you today. I have been creating printables for over 10 years now. The technology behind it is now easier than ever. You don’t have to be tech-savvy. All though I do love Adobe Illustrator, there is also no need for you to have such an expensive program. You can create awesome printables for your own personal use, to give away on your blog, or even to sell. Keep reading and I will show you exactly how you can do it.
1.What is the best free program for creating awesome printables?
Canva is my go-to program right now. I use it for just about everything I create for my blog. I now use this more than Adobe Illustrator. There are things that Adobe Illustrator can do that Canva cannot do. But, if you’re just starting out and looking for a simple, way to create awesome printables, Canva is totally it.
2. What do I have to do to use Canva? Can you break it down for me?
First, you will need to sign up. It’s free and very simple to sign up.
-
Pick a template
You can decide on and look through over 50,000 templates! Just search, click on a design you like and then click edit. See a design you like but, not too sure about the colors? That’s ok. You can change it!
-
Once you pick your template, you can change the colors.
I chose a daily planner printable for this example. You can change the colors around to fit your style. Just simply click on any object on the template and a color palette will pop up in the top left-hand corner. Click on any color to change the color of the object on the template.
-
Change the wording and the font
Want to make the printable more personal or just change up the wording? Just click on the text on the template and you can erase it and put your own words in. In the top left-hand corner, you will be able to change the font, the size of the text and the color. Pretty neat right?
-
Change photos and illustrations or add photos and illustrations.
Canva also has tons of awesome free photos and illustrations you can use for your printables. All you have to do is go to the elements section on the far left-hand side of the screen and then click on free photos, illustrations lines, shapes frames. You name it, they got it. In the example below, I have changed the colors and added a couple flowers to make my printable pop.
Yes, this is the same template I started with, I have just changed the colors, the text and added a few flowers.
3. How do I get the printable I created on my computer?
-
Name your printable
When your all finished sprucing up your printable, you will want to rename it. You can rename the printable by clicking the design title in the blue bar above the template. Once you click on the title a box will pop up for you to rename your printable.
-
Download your printable
Now that your awesome printable is done, you are going to want to download it to your computer. Canva makes this step as easy as the others. You will see the download button in the blue bar, on the right-hand side of the template. Once you click the download button, you can choose the file type. Almost always, I use PDF as my file type. What you use for your file type will depend on what you are creating. Once you have your file type selected, click that green download button.
See? Creating awesome printables doesn’t have to be hard. Just sign up for Canva, pick one of their thousands of templates and change the colors and font to fit your style. It really is that easy and the possibilities are endless!
Not sure what you want to create right now? Don’t worry about that at first, just hop on to Canva and play around. Check out all the templates, this will help get your creative juices flowing. Have fun creating awesome printables and come back here and tell me what you think! If you have any questions I am always here to help.
