Hi there! If you’re thinking for one moment that you’re not smart enough to homeschool your kids, I want you to stop right now. You are smart enough and you are the perfect person for the job.
I don’t care what anyone else says about you or what they may think. You are the best teacher your child will ever have.
If you’re stressing about homeschooling your kids, please stop. This is coming from me, a mom who at one time was in the same position you are in right now.
After five years of homeschooling, I am so glad I didn’t listen to those voices inside my head, saying I couldn’t do it, I would have missed out on so much.
My 3 younger boys are now 2,7 and 9. They have never stepped foot in a public school. They are all super smart. Not only can my two year old say his ABC’s he can also recognize them all and all of his numbers. My seven and nine-year-old boys, read, they write, and their pretty good at math.
And you know what? I taught them. Yes me, the mom who was feeling just like you.
Want to know something else?
- I don’t have a degree
- I dropped out of high school at the age of 16 and got my GED.
- I have social anxiety that I am medicated for.
- And I also have ADD.
- I am COMPLETELY unorganized. I mean seriously!
If I can homeschool my kids, certainly you can too!?
HERE’S FIVE REASON YOU ARE QUALIFIED TO TEACH YOUR KIDS
1. Your not the same person you were in high school.
This is important for you to understand. You can’t base your ability to homeschool your children off of the person you were in High School. You are not the same person, your mindset and priorities are different. Maybe you had a hard time in high school? I certainly did! It was difficult for me. (I remember wishing that someone would help me) But, you and I, we are not the same people we were back then. We are stronger, we are motivated by different things, we are moms and we care about our children.
2. There is no certain Level of education that makes you more qualified to homeschool.
Nope, if you want to homeschool your kids, a degree will do nothing for you. The scores you made on your SAT will do absolutely nothing for you. It doesn’t matter. If you have a degree good for you, if you don’t that’s ok too. It will not matter what so ever. Well, if your really, really good at Algebra, you may not need the teachers manual. That could be a plus. But, in all honesty, you do not have to be good at anything to teach your children. You just need to love your kids and be willing to learn along beside them.
3. Every homeschool curriculum has a Teachers Manual
When you purchase a math curriculum for your kids, you are not expected to know it all. You’re honestly not expected to know any of it. There is a teachers manual that will give you word from word instructions. Most curriculums even come with a set day by day plan in place. You can even purchase science, history and math curriculums that come with recorded instructors (teachers). All you have to do is watch the DVD with your child and give them some guidance. Seriously it’s all done for you!
4. No one knows your children as well as you do
As the Mother of your children, you have a huge advantage over any teacher. You spend countless hours with your child/children. You know their true personality, you know what makes them tick, what makes them smile, what makes them laugh and what their struggles are. No teacher will ever be that close to your child. Yes, they spend eight hours a day with your child in school, but it is not the same. All kids at school are expected to act a certain way, learn at a set rate and learn the same way. You have the ability and the time to help your child find his/her true learning style. You can meet the specific needs of your child. No teacher can do this!
5. You have a heart for your children that no one else has
This one is especially important to me. I learned this one when I was sitting in a meeting regarding my oldest who was in 5th grade at the time. I was there along with the consoler from the middle school he would be thrown into the next year, his current teacher and the principle. We had been fighting for my son for 5 years. During this meeting, I realized that the staff had been lying to us the entire time. And what made it worse, his 5th-grade teacher that I adored and felt like she truly cared for my son, didn’t speak up for him. She had been to all the meetings, she knew exactly what was going on. But, out of fear of maybe losing her job, she didn’t speak up. This was the moment I realized, that I was the only one who truly cared if my son succeeded. College degree or not, I was the only one who really cared, and I was the only one who could help him.
You are more than qualified to teach your kids. There was a time I was just like you. I felt like there was no way I could possibly homeschool my children. I wasn’t smart enough. But, I was wrong. As the parents of our children, we are more than qualified to teach them. You are more than qualified to teach your child. You don’t need a fancy degree. All you need is the desire to help your children succeed and a willingness to learn along with them. I truly believe that you can do this! If you have the desire to homeschool your children, don’t let thinking you’re not qualified or smart enough stop you! You can do it!
