Two years ago we let money control our lives and our emotions. Living on one income, was already hard, then my husband took a 30% pay cut, we had no budget and no emergency fund. We were hit with one emergency after the next and weren’t prepared for any of it. At the time, we were living in what seemed like a financial nightmare.
There were many nights when I cried because I felt like a failure and I had no idea what we were going to do. My husband was stressed to the max and I could tell that he felt the same way; possibly even worse. He was responsible for taking care of a family of 7 and things weren’t looking good.
We were to the point where all we could do was pray that God would help us get out of this mess and give us one more chance to do this money thing right. I knew without a shadow of a doubt that God knew our struggles and he could get us out of this and if he did, I was never going back! I was going to take control of our money and no longer let it control our lives.
And you know what? He heard me, he heard us. He provided a way.
I also held true to my word. I developed a budget for us that works and now have around $3000 in an emergency fund.
Maybe you are at a point in your life where you are feeling the same way. You may feel like there is no way out, like a failure.
If you take anything away from this post please let it be this:
1. God hears you and he will provide.
God knows everything you need and he will provide it. He has provided you with the power to make money and to control it. Now is the time to take control and stop letting it control your life. I learned that lesson the hard way, but sometimes that’s what it takes for us to listen, right?
2. You need a budget.
Make a simple budget, know when your money is coming in, where it’s going and why. Control your money instead of letting it control you.
3. You need to start an emergency fund, right now.
This here is probably the most important. Emergencies will happen and the only way to be financially prepared for them is to have a stash of money somewhere set aside just for emergencies. You must start putting something aside, $10 a paycheck, $5 a paycheck, whatever you can do, you need to start doing it. If we had, had an emergency fund, it would have prevented so much financial stress.
How does that sound? How would you like to have control over your money instead of letting your money control you? Creating a budget and starting an emergency fund, has helped us tremendously. No, we aren’t rich, but it sure is nice going to sleep at night knowing that our bills are paid, we have an emergency fund to fall back on and God is on our side!
Maybe you’re in a financial mess right now and see no way out. I want you to know that you’re not alone! Pray that God will lead the way out. Start working on a simple budget and set up an emergency fund. God will lead the way, but you must take action and follow!
